Example: collection area comparison |
This
site consists of a main building A,
auxiliary buildings B
and some ground level sensors C,
which are linked by various underground cables.
The collection area for this site for a direct lightning
strike is a distance equivalent to the height of the structures
laid out in plan (shown as the shaded area).
The effective collection area for transient overvoltages
is much larger. It includes a collection area associated
with the surrounding ground (unshaded), plus additional
areas (not shown) for incoming power and phone lines D. |
